It is a pity this great king had such a simple name: Sena. Had he a grand name ending with “-bahu” or “-singha”, the name would have its real significance of the epthet “Maha”. For truly this relatively less eulogised king of the ancient Ceylon should rank au par with Parakramabahu I and Vijayabahu I.

Undoubtedly and unqestionably great King Mahasen is the pioneer of Sri Lankan Irrigation history.Not only for history even now as Sri Lankans we salute to our great hero King Mahasen.

Very good collection, perhaps the statue of Mahasen at Kataragama need be be shown of this great King. Also his Lion Coins of which many denmination and variation exist. He must have required a lot of money to fainance these mega project, which was started by Vasaba.There is an inscribed coin with a Lion and railed swastika end with “puta sena’ may be also his.All this with a tank or the Jetawana Dagabo he built must be shown on a coin or currancy note or a stamp.
